1. How do I use dependencies?/Why can't I select tests in the dependencies list?

The dependencies list is a list of tests on which the current test depends. Tests which have dependencies will not run unless the tests they depend on were successful the last time they ran. Tests which have never run can optionally be treated as having passed.

Only valid dependencies can be selected. You cannot create a dependency on the current test, as a test cannot depend on itself. Likewise, you cannot create a dependency on any test which depends on the current test. This can be confusing as sometimes there is no direct dependency. If Test A depends on Test B, Test C can be configured to depend on either Test A or B, but if dependent on Test A, it is also implicitly dependent on Test B.

Implicit dependencies are displayed as greyed boxes to indicate that another test is enforcing the dependency. Deleting a test automatically removes the dependencies on the test from other tests.

2. How can I move WatchDog to a different machine/OS

If moving the license to a new host with a different name, ensure you have deactivated your copy of WatchDog on the old system before activating it on the new system. This will prevent you having to contact sales to get your registration fixed :-).

Moving WatchDog itself is quite simple. Shut down WatchDog. If you wish to preserve only your tests, copy watchdog.dat from the old system to the new. The location of this file MUST be that specified in the HOMEDIR variable in %windir%\watchdog.ini on each systems.

If you are keeping your settings, additionally copy %windir%\watchdog.ini (To %windir% on the new system), and ensure you alter the HOMEDIR variable to point to the correct location (As originally configured by the installer). If you need to move the location of your test data, this variable must be altered accordingly while WatchDog is not running.

Summary information for test results is kept in wdsum.dat. Copying this file is optional, and if WatchDog is being moved to systems of a different architecture (presently only x86 is available), this file may be incompatible with the new system.

The log files can also be copied if you require them.
