There are a lot of reasons why auto response will 'not' respond,
as auto responses are dangerous it has to avoid back scatter and
loops etc.
To find the cause you'll probably need to capture the thread from
mail.log where it should give the reason for not responding.
Send a test message from the problem system.
Find any mail.log log entry related to that attempt. e.g.
05 09:43:05.55:Info:11376: msg: [138] Rcpt: 127.0.0.1
<postmaster@book.netwin.co.nz> <chrisp@chrisbook> 0
""
then grep the log for all entries for that thread:
grep ":11376:" mail.log
and you should find the reason the responder didn't respond.
