Surgemail Allow Mechanism
Sorry for the inconvenience
,
but this annoying bounce will eventually stop most SPAM, so it's probably
worth while :-)
You probably
got to this page because you tried to send someone an email and it bounced
with a confusing error message. Congratulations help is at hand!
- Send an email to the 'allow...' address given in the bounce you
got, or...
- Click the link provided in the bounce and follow the on screen
instructions.
- Then resend the original email, it should now go through ok.
- See the list below for an explanation of why this occured and how
you can stop it and decrease spam in future.
The most common
cause of this is that the mail server you used to send the message is
not permitted to send emails for the domain you are sending from as a
result the receiving mail server thought you were probably a spammer,
but don't panic, you can fix it right now!. Here's what to do:
- Send email using the official
mail server for the domain in question. eg: if you are sending from
an account 'bob@xyz.com' then use the mail server 'xyz.com' or 'mail.xyz.com'
to send mail.
- Ask your ISP to add SPF
records if they have not done so already to allow your IP address to
send email for that domain.
- Correct your 'from' header
to be your real/correct domain if it is wrong.
- Send an email to the email
address listed in the bounce message you got, it will start 'allow...'
doing this will allow future emails from you to that user/domain to
go through automatically.
- To learn more about SPF,
and how it works see this page
If this error comes directly
from your local mail server then probably you have not turned on SMTP
authentication in your mail client. To turn on SMTP authentication
in OutLook Express 6:
- From the 'Tools' menu choose
'Accounts...'
- Click on the 'Mail' tab,
select your email account and click 'Properties'
- Click on the 'Servers' tab
- At the bottom of the window
make sure the 'My server requires authentication' checkbox is on
- Click 'OK'
- Click 'Close'
