I recently replaced my server hardware. When I did a fresh install of SurgeMail, I noticed that the default mailbox path is /home/surgemail. I’ve always had my mailboxes in /var/surgemail, so I just changed the settings and copied the mailboxes to the new server.

If you’ve got a space issue on /var you should consider repartitioning if only because most other unix admins would expect those files to be on /var not /home. Permissions could become messy too. 

Mostly I’m just curious if the mailbox path can be easily moved and if there is a reason that the SurgeMail default changed from /var to /home.

When I installed Centos, I let it partition automatically. I need to repartition anyway because it allocated a lot of space for /home which is not needed, as the system is a dedicated mail server and will not have individual user accounts.
